HBO Max In December 2020: 139 New Movies

HBO Max next month (December 2020) plans to add 139 new movies including the premiere of Wonder Woman 1984, the much-anticipated sequel to the 2017 blockbuster hit, Wonder Woman.

The Gal Gadot-starring film will debut in theaters and on HBO Max on Christmas Day. Warner Media, which is owned by AT&T, which also owns HBO Max, decided last week to hold the simultaneous premiere due to the Coronavirus pandemic which has limited attendance in theaters. (AT&T is also anxious to boost HBO Max, which has lagged behind rivals Netflix and Disney+ since its launch on May 27.)

HBO Max’s new films in December will also include Let Them All Talk, a HBO original comedy film directed by Steven Soderbergh and starring Meryl Streep as a novelist who goes on an ocean voyage with some old friends (played by Candice Bergen and Dianne Wiest); Blow Up (pictured above), the 1966 classic mystery starring David Hemmings as a London fashion photographer who accidently snaps a murder (or does he?); Gladiator, the 2000 historical drama (great action scenes!) starring Russell Crowe as a Roman general who’s forced into slavery after the emperor’s son (Joaquin Phoenix) steals the throne; and an extended version of Independence Day, the farcical but fun 1996 film about an alien invasion and the somewhat unintentionally comic response from the world.

Here is the complete list of new movies coming in December 2020 to HBO Max. (Movies with HBO in parenthesis will be available on both HBO and HBO Max.)
