Redbox, the disc rental kiosk service, plans to add 21 new movies this month, including three recent theatrical releases that also premiered on HBO Max.
The new films at Redbox will include:
* The Little Things, which premiered on HBO Max, and in theaters, on January 29. The movie stars Denzel Washington as a deputy sheriff who teams with a brash detective (Malek) to hunt a serial killer terrorizing Los Angeles.
* Judas and the Black Messiah, which is based on a real-life story, stars LaKeith Stanfield as Bill O’Neal, an FBI informant who infiltrates the Black Panthers during the 1960s to get incriminatory evidence against the group. However, O’Neal soon regrets his mission when his work triggers a controversial homicide of the organization’s leader, Fred Hampton, played by Daniel Kaluuya, who won a Supporting Actor Oscar. Like The Little Things, Judas and the Black Messiah had a same day premiere (February 12) on HBO Max and in theaters.
* Tom & Jerry, another Warner Bros. film that premiered on HBO Max and in theaters on the same day. The movie reunites the warring cat and mouse as they do battle in a big hotel prior to an important wedding.
* Raya and the Last Dragon, a Disney animated film set in the fantasy world of Kumandra where a lone warrior named Raya must save humans and dragons from an evil group of monsters called Druun. The movie, which was released in theaters on March 5, also debuted on Disney+ for $30 via its Premier Access service.
Also notable: The Father, which netted Anthony Hopkins a Best Actor Oscar this year for his portrayal of an elderly patriarch afflicted with dementia.
